A new video featuring a graphical reticule shows US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s head centered within what would have been the sniper’s crosshair.
The footage captures Mr. Trump tilting his head to observe a screen graphic and leaning toward the microphone, actions that reportedly saved his life, as detailed in a post on X by US journalist Mario Nawfal, known for his ‘The Roundtable Show’ recognized as a major example of citizen journalism.
“New footage reveals Trump narrowly avoiding a precisely aimed shot. Close-up footage indicates Thomas Crooks’ shot was perfectly aligned on Trump’s head… The video was recorded mere seconds before the incident,” Mr. Nawfal stated in the post.
The US Department of Homeland Security is investigating the Secret Service’s handling of security at the campaign rally where the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump occurred. This incident, which took place in Butler, Pennsylvania, involved a gunman firing from an exposed rooftop approximately 150 meters away from the stage where Mr. Trump was speaking.
During the shooting, Mr. Trump sustained a minor injury to his ear, and a rally attendee tragically lost their life. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was subsequently neutralized by Secret Service snipers.
President Joe Biden has ordered an independent review of the Secret Service’s response to the assassination attempt, which is also under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a potential case of domestic terrorism.
The Secret Service is entrusted with the security of the US president, vice president, former presidents, their families, major election candidates, and visiting foreign dignitaries.
