A missing 100-level female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State has been found dead.
The deceased, identified as Favour Okenyi, was a student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science.
She was reported missing on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, after attending her chemistry practical.
Her body was discovered inside a drainage behind the Eni-Njoku male hostel, near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, on the evening of Friday, July 5.
The lifeless body of Favour was found by some students.
Confirming the incident, the university spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, expressed the institution’s shock over the discovery.
In a statement on Sunday, July 7, Omeaku said the university management was working with security agencies and the deceased’s family to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
He added that understanding the circumstances behind the student’s death would help the university prevent similar incidents in the future.
“The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student,” he said. “We implore anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the university administration.”
