Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Jakana police station in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno state on Sunday, killing a police driver and a woman.
The terrorists also set fire to two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle belonging to the police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, and they seized some arms and ammunition.
Located 35 km along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, Jakana has long been a route for insurgents. Sources in Jakana reported that the terrorists stormed the police station around 1 am, engaging security troops for hours before fleeing around 3 am.
The Executive Chairman of Konduga Council Area, Abbas Abari, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation but stated he did not have details of the casualties at the time.
He said, “Yes, I received a distress call that Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Jakana police station last night. I am speaking with the Divisional Police Officer, and I will provide details once I have them.”
Calls to Borno State Police Command Public Relations officer Kenneth Daso went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
