Shannen Doherty agreed to finalize her divorce from her estranged husband, Kurt Iswarienko, the day before her passing.
According to People, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum filed paperwork to waive spousal support on Friday, and she died at age 53 on Saturday. The former couple reportedly agreed in the documents to a “default or uncontested dissolution” of their marriage. Iswarienko, 50, signed off on the paperwork on Saturday — the day Doherty passed away from stage IV cancer.
Doherty filed for divorce from Iswarienko in April 2023 amid allegations of infidelity, which he denied. The “Charmed” star accused Iswarienko of having an affair during their 12-year marriage, which began in 2011.
She disclosed on her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear,” in December that she felt betrayed upon discovering his infidelity just before undergoing brain surgery.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Doherty underwent extensive treatment and achieved remission in 2017, only to announce in February 2020 that the cancer had progressed to Stage 4. Throughout the last year of her life, she dealt with the challenges of her contentious divorce.
In her final months, Doherty contended with delays in the divorce proceedings and allegations that Iswarienko was withholding financial support until her death. She expressed frustration in court filings over Iswarienko’s purported delays and lack of financial transparency regarding his photography earnings during their marriage.
Following Doherty’s death, her friend Tara Furiani criticized Iswarienko in a LinkedIn post, lamenting the impact of the divorce proceedings on Doherty’s life. Furiani described the pain caused to Doherty and criticized Iswarienko’s actions during her illness.
Throughout her life, Doherty experienced several marriages, including with Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994 and Rick Salomon from 2002 to 2003. Reflecting on her marital history on her podcast, she expressed both belief in love and acknowledgment of challenges within her relationships, particularly with Iswarienko.
