Abuja-FCT: Correctional Service Discloses Biometric Information Of 31 Escaped Inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has released biometric details of some escapees from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.

In April, LIB reported that 119 inmates escaped after the facility’s perimeter wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall. While some inmates were quickly recaptured, security forces continued searching for the majority.

The Correctional Service announced that it is crucial to publish these biometric details to aid in their recapture. Previously, the Service had released the biometric information of 18 of the fugitives.

In a statement, the center’s public relations officer, Abubakar Umar, said the information is “published for sister security agencies and the general public to assist in locating and recapturing them.”

Umar urged Nigerians to cooperate with the Service, emphasizing that the escapees pose a threat to public safety and national security.

“The general public is further informed that the Nigerian Correctional Service has since deployed overt and covert strategies towards recapturing all escapees while ensuring that security in custodial facilities nationwide is beefed up to forestall any security breaches.

“If any of the escapees is sighted, the public can report to the nearest security agent or agency or may call the following numbers: 07087086005, 09060004598, or 08075050006. The public can also contact us through our email at: [email protected] or [email protected],” Umar said
