A tragic incident in Arizona has claimed the life of a 2-year-old girl after her father left her in a car amid high temperatures, authorities report.
According to Marana Police Capt. Tim Brunenkant, the father was running errands with his daughter and upon returning home on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, he allegedly left the 2-year-old in the car, knowing the car was running with the air conditioning on.
After entering the house, the father returned to the car approximately 30 to 60 minutes later to find the car off. The child was unresponsive, prompting him to call 911, Brunenkant stated.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, the girl was pronounced dead, as confirmed by police.
On that day, Marana recorded temperatures soaring to 111 degrees Fahrenheit. The town, located just outside Tucson, was under an excessive heat warning.
Describing the incident as a “heat-related tragedy,” Brunenkant mentioned that no charges have been filed yet, although they remain a possibility. Interviews are ongoing, and authorities are actively seeking surveillance footage from the neighborhood.
