A Foster Mother Has Been Taken Into Custody After A 5-Year-Old Boy Passed Away From Being Left In A Hot Car For Seven Hours

A 5-year-old boy tragically passed away after being left in a hot car in Omaha, Nebraska, for approximately seven hours, authorities reported.

The child was discovered unresponsive outside a beauty salon where his foster mother, Juanita Pinon, 40, works, shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, according to Omaha police.

Emergency responders transported the boy to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police confirmed.

Juanita Pinon, the foster mother from Omaha, has been arrested and charged with child abuse by neglect resulting in death, Omaha police announced on Thursday, July 11.

“The suspect did not provide a statement indicating whether the incident was accidental or intentional,” said police spokesperson Chris Gordon in a statement to ABC News.

The temperature in Omaha reached 89 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of the incident.
