A North Carolina teenager is achieving remarkable milestones.
Ryan Garner, at 17 years old, has become a pilot. He holds the distinction of being the youngest Black person and the first African American from Concord to earn his private pilot’s license from Goose Creek Airport in North Carolina.
“At first, I never really considered becoming a pilot,” Garner shared with Channel 9. “My initial interest was in working on the ground crew, guiding planes or marshalling them.
“It was during a conversation with a Delta pilot about flight school that I became interested in pursuing aviation.”
Last week, the City of Concord honored Garner’s accomplishments with an official proclamation, presented by Mayor Dusch.
