The incident occurred at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, July 22, in Balby, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Police reported that the unregistered XL Bully aggressively shook the child’s head from side to side and bit their neck.
The child is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and three people have been arrested in connection with the attack.
The dog has been seized and is now in police custody.
A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a banned breed of dog, allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control, and child neglect.
Additionally, two teenagers, aged 13 and 15, have been arrested on similar charges but have since been released from police custody.
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney commented, “This incident could have had a tragic ending and led to a fatality. We continue to urge people to stop thinking ‘it won’t happen to me’. Owners need to be responsible, understand their dog’s behavior, and ensure everyone’s safety.”
