The Sussexes will be absent from the wedding of the Duke of Westminster and Olivia Henson on Friday. Among the notable guests at the ceremony in Chester will be Prince William, who will serve as an usher.
Hugh Grosvenor, the seventh Duke of Westminster, has a close relationship with the royal family, being friends with both the Prince of Wales and Prince Harry.
Both royal brothers have even chosen the Duke of Westminster as godfather to their sons, Prince George and Prince Archie.
Despite this close relationship, Prince Harry and Meghan have decided not to attend the event. One reason could be the strained relationship between the brothers, as they may wish to avoid complicating matters for the groom.
Even if Prince Harry had chosen to attend, Meghan would not have traveled to the UK with him, for the same reason she did not attend the Invictus Games service in London last month: issues surrounding their security.
In a recent episode, the Telegraph’s Royal Editor Hannah Furness discusses why Meghan is unlikely to return to the UK anytime soon.
“There is quite a heavy narrative that Meghan and the children won’t be coming back until they can resolve this security issue to their liking,” she says. “But he [Harry] will certainly be coming and going.”
