Lucy Letby, A Former Neonatal Nurse, On Trial For Attempting Murder Of A Baby Girl

On Monday, child serial killer Lucy Letby will stand trial over an accusation of attempting to murder a baby girl.

In August 2023, Letby, aged 34, from Hereford, was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

During Letby’s 10-month trial at Manchester Crown Court, the jury could not reach verdicts on six counts of attempted murder concerning five children.

Now, at the same court, Letby, a former neonatal nurse, will face retrial on one of those counts – the allegation of attempting to murder a baby girl known as Child K, in February 2016.

The retrial is expected to last up to four weeks. Letby, who denied all charges, was acquitted of two counts of attempted murder in the original trial.

A court order prohibits the disclosure of the identities of both the surviving and deceased children involved in the allegations.
