According to reports, a female student at the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State allegedly killed her newborn baby in the school hostel shortly after delivery.
The identity of the student has not been disclosed. The tragic incident unfolded when the infant was thrown from the top floor of a three-story building. A heartbreaking scene ensued, captured in a viral video, showing fellow students grappling with the devastating loss.
The circumstances surrounding the student’s pregnancy and unmarried status have raised questions, as it is reported that she gave birth in the hostel’s bathroom.
The university’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Bello, confirmed the incident on Monday, emphasizing that the student’s pregnancy did not occur during her enrollment at the university.
He also clarified that the incident occurred shortly after the recent resumption of the academic session. Immediate medical attention was provided to the student following the distressing event, and the university promptly informed the authorities of the incident.
“The university administration is conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary measures to address the situation,” Bello stated.
