U.S. President Joe Biden has reaffirmed that he will not pardon his son Hunter, marking his first public statement on the matter since Hunter’s conviction on federal firearm offenses in Delaware.

Hunter Biden was found guilty on three federal charges this week, concluding an emotionally charged trial that revealed many dark and private aspects of the Biden family.

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the 81-year-old Biden described his son as “one of the brightest, most decent men I know,” but firmly stated, “I will not pardon him.”

“I’m extremely proud of my son Hunter. He has overcome an addiction, he’s one of the brightest, most decent men I know,” Biden said during a news conference on the margins of the G7 summit.
