Hugh Grosvenor’s Remarkable Wedding Gift to Chester City Unveiled

The Duke of Westminster is preparing a generous gesture for the city of Chester in honor of his upcoming marriage to Olivia Henson.

Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke of Westminster, will marry Olivia on Friday, June 7, at Chester Cathedral, near his family’s ancestral seat, Eaton Hall.

To commemorate the occasion, Chester will be adorned with 100,000 flowers planted in displays throughout the city for the summer, all funded by the billionaire Duke.

Additionally, the couple will donate their wedding flowers to local charities and organizations.

The Wedding Venue

It’s unsurprising that Hugh, aged 33, and Olivia, aged 31, have decided to exchange vows at Chester Cathedral. The same venue hosted the wedding of Hugh’s older sister, Lady Tamara, who married Prince William’s close friend Edward van Cutsem there in 2004. The Grade I-listed building is situated less than four miles from Hugh’s family home and holds a special place in the groom’s memories.

During a visit, Hugh joked: “I think next time we’re in here will be slightly more nerve-wracking. But I’m unbelievably excited. We’ve obviously got a long association with the cathedral as a family so we were here for my father’s memorial, my sister’s wedding, and every Remembrance Sunday that I can attend is here.”

Moving Up North

Last month, the Duke of Westminster said: “It’s obviously a place where we will live, where we’ll be building our lives together.

“And we’re slowly transitioning to move up from London and be much more permanent here and really putting roots down.”

The exact timing and location of their move are not known, but Eaton Hall, Hugh’s family home, where they will host their private wedding reception after the church ceremony on Friday, would undoubtedly be an idyllic beginning to married life.

The French chateau-style property, situated on land owned by the family since the 15th century, spans over 10,000 acres. The estate features formal gardens, parkland, farmland, and woodland.
