The rapper known as “Pain,” born Charles Jones, was marking his 26th birthday on Saturday night (June 22) before moving to a Holiday Inn, where, according to his lawyer Lewis Fusco, he was attacked by assailants.
According to the Tampa Police Department, law enforcement responded to a 911 call around 4:40 a.m. ET and discovered two vehicles riddled with bullets in the hotel parking lot. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were hospitalized in stable condition.
Earlier in the evening, the rapper and his entourage had been celebrating his birthday at a nearby Airbnb, but they were reportedly shut down and ejected by authorities, as indicated by Jones in his Instagram Story, per NBC News.
Police are currently working to identify the perpetrators and are investigating the motive behind the attack.
The Tampa Police Department urges anyone with relevant information to contact them at 813-231-6130.
