Police have apprehended Rachael Olufogbe, a 300-level student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State, following her physical assault on a fellow student on Saturday.
The incident occurred in a private hostel situated in Oye Egbo, a community adjacent to the school premises.
According to reports, Olufogbe and another female resident had a dispute over the use of a clothes drying line in the hostel. Allegedly, the victim moved Olufogbe’s clothes to create space on the line before hanging her own clothes. This action prompted Olufogbe to protest vehemently, sparking a verbal altercation between the two.
The confrontation escalated quickly, with Olufogbe allegedly retrieving a razor blade and using it to inflict injuries on the victim. The victim reportedly sustained bloody cuts on her throat, head, and chest during the altercation.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sunday Fashina, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
He said, “The incident happened outside the campus in a private hostel. Nobody dares that within the campus because they know the rules and regulations. If anyone tries that, it will catch up with them. The police are already handling it.
“The suspect is in police custody, and once it involves the police, we cannot interfere. When they are done with their investigations, they will write to the Vice-Chancellor to give their report, then we conduct our investigation. So, let’s wait for the outcome of the police investigation.”
