Zara’s Daring Tongue Piercing
Zara, at the age of 17, once sported a tongue piercing. The mother of three surprised attendees at King Charles’s 50th birthday party in 1998 by wearing a metallic tongue barbell.
Reflecting on her unexpected body modification, Zara shared with Tatler in 2011, “At least I didn’t have it coming out of my nose, or anything.”
Reportedly, Anne, Zara’s mother, was unfazed by her daughter’s new look and simply asked if she could speak properly with the piercing.
It is believed that Zara got the piercing at a tattoo parlour near Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, where she attended as a boarder.
However, Zara’s tongue piercing didn’t last long. Just a year later in 1999, photos of the royal showed that her gleaming silver tongue barbell was nowhere to be seen.
Zara Driving Ban
In 2020, Zara made headlines when she received a six-month driving ban for speeding in her Land Rover, clocking 91 mph near her Cotswolds residence. She was also given four points on her license, adding to the nine points she had accumulated previously.
Notably, her mother, Princess Anne, had been caught speeding on the same road in 2001. In March of that year, the Queen’s daughter admitted to driving her Bentley at 90 mph in a 70-mph zone.

In her younger years, Zara was known for her unconventional fashion sense. Not one to adhere to norms, Princess Anne’s daughter often appeared in public wearing daring outfits paired with standout hats. In 1998, at just 17 years old, Zara broke away from tradition at the wedding of Santa Palmer-Tomkinson and Simon Sebag-Montefiore.
