Tuesday’s Buckingham Palace garden party saw a notable royal gathering, with the Prince of Wales being joined by four of his cousins.
Princess Beatrice, 35, Princess Eugenie, 34, Peter Phillips, 46, Zara Tindall, 43, and her husband, Mike Tindall, 45, were all invited by Prince William to join guests at the event.
However, royal enthusiasts might have noticed the absence of William’s youngest royal cousins, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and James, Earl of Wessex, 16, from the gathering. Lady Louise and James were unable to attend due to their academic commitments.
The children of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have participated in numerous significant royal events over the years, including Trooping the Colour, the King’s coronation, and the Christmas Day church service.
Lady Louise is currently completing the second year of her English degree at the University of St Andrews, where Prince William met his future wife, Kate Middleton. She began her studies in September 2022 after achieving her A-Levels.
Although Buckingham Palace did not release her grades, the standard entry requirements for St Andrews are AAA. Lady Louise has had few public appearances this year, but she participated in a carriage driving competition at the Royal Windsor Horse Show earlier in May and was photographed competing in Windsor last weekend.
Meanwhile, James is currently in the midst of his GCSE exams in his final year of secondary school education. He was last seen in public when he accompanied his parents, Prince Edward and Sophie, at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
James previously held the title of Viscount Severn, but following his parents’ change in royal titles from the Earl and Countess of Wessex to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh in March 2023, he assumed his father’s former title.
The dukedom, which has historically been hereditary, will not be passed down to James upon Edward’s death.
