The Princess Of Wales’ Clandestine Presence At Eurovision

Princess Kate surprised fans with a stunning piano performance during the grand final of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, leaving many in awe.

The team responsible for last year’s event shared a rare glimpse into their collaboration with her. Eurovision’s executive producer, Andrew Cartmell, revealed during the winner’s press conference, which followed their BAFTA win for Live Event Coverage, that they had been in collaboration with her for several weeks, even months.

“They wanted to support Eurovision, in particular, they wanted to support the relationship with Ukraine. It was really important to them so we had to do something that felt appropriate.

“The whole purpose was to show that the UK, through all our musicians, through all our artists was united with Ukraine. The Palace and the Princess of Wales in particular were very happy to be a part of that.”

The video, which highlighted musical luminaries such as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and the UK’s 2022 contestant Sam Ryder, aimed to celebrate British artists and extend a warm welcome to the host city, Liverpool, while also honoring Ukraine, the intended host.

However, there was a surprise appearance by the Princess of Wales, displaying her piano prowess from the Crimson Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, elegantly attired in a blue Jenny Packham gown.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 won the Live Event Coverage Award at the 2024 TV BAFTA Awards

While the Princess of Wales continues her recovery from cancer treatment, her husband, Prince William, made a video appearance at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards.

As the President of BAFTA since February 2010, the Prince of Wales recorded a message for Baroness Floella Benjamin, the former children’s TV presenter who received the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship.

“Baroness Floella Benjamin, you remind us of the power of empathy, compassion, and action to effect positive change and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you. I’m thrilled that you are receiving the BAFTA Fellowship this evening, and I send my heartfelt congratulations,” he said.
