However, a spokesperson clarified that this involvement shouldn’t be interpreted as Catherine returning to work.
This might confuse her many admirers, who may wonder about the true situation at Kensington Palace. While Catherine’s dedication to the Royal Foundation’s Business Taskforce for Early Childhood and the latest report reflects her commitment, it’s important to note that it doesn’t indicate her immediate return to public duties.
Catherine, 42, is currently undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” for cancer, following major abdominal surgery. She hasn’t participated in any public engagements this year, and friends suggest we might not see her until the autumn, and only if she has fully recovered.
In a heartfelt video message in March, Catherine requested “time, space, and privacy” to complete her treatment, expressing her deep love for her work and her hope to return when she is able. This focus on recovery remains her top priority.
This situation has also affected other areas of her and Prince William’s work. For instance, the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for their household has been put on hold. This CEO role, which would oversee around 60 staff and report directly to the couple, was intended to revolutionize the traditional hierarchical structure of royal staff. However, the search for a CEO has been paused to prioritize Catherine’s recovery.
Although William and Catherine often undertake separate engagements, they work closely as a team through the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales. The postponement of key decisions, such as hiring new staff, underscores Catherine’s importance to the future of the monarchy. “No one wants to put any pressure on Catherine,” a source said. “The only thing that matters at the moment is her getting better.”
King Charles, who chose to remain visible during his own cancer treatment, occupies a different role compared to Catherine. As such, there is no need for her to be seen while she recovers, despite the increased online trolling she has faced in recent weeks.
