Queen Letizia and King Felipe observed a significant event on Saturday as they participated in the Flag Oath ceremony at the 44th promotion of the General Military Academy.
The Flag Oath is a tradition held on the 25th, 40th, and 50th anniversaries of Felipe’s pledge of allegiance to the Spanish flag. This particular ceremony marked the 40th anniversary of the event, during which the monarch, clad in his military uniform, was seen kissing the Spanish flag as customary.
In attendance at the ceremony was the King’s daughter, Princess Leonor, who is currently undergoing military training at the Zaragoza Military Academy. Her proud mother, Queen Letizia, couldn’t help but keep a watchful eye on the teenager.
In videos and photos from the event, Letizia can be seen scanning the group of soldiers, searching for her daughter among the crowd. Despite the attention, Leonor maintained a poised and professional demeanor throughout the ceremony.
At 51, Letizia exuded elegance for the ceremony, donning a light blue suit paired with black kitten heels. Her hair was impeccably styled, complemented by a pair of earrings and a black handbag.
Leonor has been adjusting to her military training, and earlier this year, she made her first appearance at the Military Easter ceremony, hosted at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
Leonor accompanied her parents as they greeted members of the armed forces at a special event marking the beginning of the military year.
This event commemorates the recovery of the Menorcan town of Mahon on January 6, 1782, from English control.
In contrast to Saturday’s ceremony, Leonor stood by Felipe and Letizia’s side, with the 18-year-old and her father seen standing at attention before entering the palace. As the royals entered, Leonor and Letizia followed just behind Felipe.
Leonor swiftly adapted to her royal responsibilities at the event, shaking hands with high-ranking military officers during the parade.
The young royal commenced her military training in Zaragoza in August 2023, a significant year for the princess as she also graduated from UWC Atlantic, a boarding school in Wales, pledged her allegiance to the Spanish flag, and celebrated her 18th birthday.
