King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William are set to travel to France on June 6 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings during World War II.
The King and Queen will participate in a commemorative event hosted by the Ministry of Defence and Royal British Legion at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer. Meanwhile, Prince William will mark the anniversary alongside the Canadian government at the Juno Beach Centre, accompanied by Canadian armed forces personnel and World War II veterans.
Additionally, Prince William is expected to attend the international commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach, joined by veterans and 25 heads of state.
Prior to their international trip, the royals will attend a commemorative event in the UK hosted in Portsmouth on June 5. Other members of the royal family will participate in separate events over the two days.
The trio are not anticipated to be joined by Prince William’s wife, the Princess of Wales, who is presently recovering from cancer.
This visit will mark Prince William’s first overseas visit since his wife’s diagnosis and the first overseas visit for King Charles since his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
In recent weeks, King Charles has been visible in more public appearances, including a visit to a cancer treatment centre and the hosting of two garden parties, one of which coincided with an event hosted by his son, Prince Harry.
Sources emphasize that despite his more public role, the King continues to undergo treatment for his undisclosed form of cancer.
During a recent visit to Wiltshire, King Charles discussed recovery with army veteran Aaron Mapplebeck, who shared his experience of undergoing chemotherapy last year for testicular cancer and losing his sense of taste. The King empathized, sharing that he had a similar experience, as reported.
