Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received a warm welcome during their three-day visit to Nigeria over the weekend.

Although they were not officially representing the British royal family, the couple was observed standing up as “God Save the King” was sung at a Nigerian charity event on Saturday.

This anthem serves as the national and royal anthem for various British territories, Commonwealth realms, and the British Crown Dependencies. While the authorship of the lyrics remains unknown, it is often attributed to the composer John Bull.

The Duke and Duchess were attending a lunch event in Abuja, which followed shortly after their participation in a volleyball match and a warm reception from enthusiastic fans. Meghan, aged 42, looked stunning in a white strapless St. Agni dress, complemented by her glossy brunette tresses styled in a low chignon.

As guests of honor, the couple occupied specially designated chairs and maintained composed expressions as both the British and Nigerian national anthems were played. Prince Harry faced forward with his arms by his side during the anthems.

Following the anthems, the Duke and Duchess enjoyed lively performances by a group of dancers and drummers before listening to testimonies from wounded warriors. They also had the opportunity to view a computer-generated tour of the planned Invictus Centre, which aims to provide physical and mental rehabilitation for injured service personnel.

During the event, Abike Dabiri Erewa, chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, elicited smiles and applause from Meghan and the audience when she remarked, “Princess Meghan is a Nigerian!”

Abike confessed she wasn’t surprised when Meghan said on her podcast she had Nigerian heritage, saying: “I was excited but not surprised. Because she is beautiful, intelligent, diligent and hardworking and she stands firm in the midst of challenges.

“Prince Harry you married the best — our daughter, our friend Princess Meghan. I hope you come back again, again and again.” She continued: “Princess Meghan, you married the best man. He is handsome and gorgeous and the best man.”
