However, few managed to do so as masterfully (and as dramatically) as Nicki Minaj. The rap icon truly became a living floral sculpture this evening, thanks to a bold and avant-garde creation by Marni’s Francesco Risso—custom-made, naturally.
Minaj’s Met Gala ensemble offered an artistic interpretation of the sculptural floral designs initially showcased in Marni’s spring 2024 collection, elevating the theme to new heights.
Her custom hourglass minidress, crafted from hand-painted golden silk duchesse fabric, was adorned with 3D metal flowers, each meticulously hand-painted in vibrant hues. Paired with floral-accented footwear and dazzling jewelry to match, she resembled a haute couture bouquet.
Minaj is no stranger to making a fashion statement at the Met Gala. This evening marked her seventh appearance at the event, and throughout the years, she has consistently brought flair and theatrics to the red carpet.
In 2022, for instance, she donned a vampy black ensemble by Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci, featuring feather embellishments and a formal baseball cap. And for the 2019 “Camp” theme, she embraced a playful and frothy pink creation by Prabal Gurung.
Once again, Minaj captivated with an unexpected and stunning reveal tonight, earning her well-deserved accolades.
