Lady Louise Windsor demonstrated her equestrian skills by participating in the dressage events at the Windsor Park Carriage Driving Trials on Saturday.
The 20-year-old eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh wore grey skinny jeans, a large overcoat, and a black and white helmet as she maneuvered the carriage through the course.
Lady Louise recently returned to Windsor from Scotland, where she is pursuing an English degree at the University of St Andrews. Before the competition, she was seen enjoying a hot beverage with an event staff member, wearing a beige trench coat.
While her proud parents, Prince Edward and Sophie, were not present at the trials due to their royal engagements, Lady Louise continues to follow in the footsteps of her late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, by excelling in equestrian sports. She learned to ride at a young age and shares her grandfather’s passion for carriage driving.
Prince Philip, who introduced carriage driving to the UK after retiring from polo in 1971, represented Britain in numerous championships.
In 2019, he watched with pride as Lady Louise competed in the Private Driving Singles carriage drive during the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she achieved third place.
In a BBC One documentary titled “Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers,” aired in 2021, Lady Louise reflected on inheriting her grandfather’s love for carriage driving.
Lady Louise said: “The Duke of Edinburgh has been so involved in my driving which has been lovely, but slightly scary because he invented the sport pretty much, but it’s incredible to have learned first-hand from him and definitely made us closer, I think. After a competition, he would always ask how he went, his eyes would light up because he would get so excited when he talks about it.”
Recalling fond memories with her grandfather, Lady Louise added: “When we would go carriage driving, first of all he’d take me on a different route every day and I did not know how he’d manage to do that but he would also tell me all sorts of anecdotes about absolutely anything and everything. He’s honestly one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met.”
