During her visit to Nigeria, Meghan Markle allegedly “broke dress code,” with certain individuals implying that the Duchess revealed “too much skin.”

Alongside Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex made a fashionable statement in the African nation over the weekend, meeting injured servicemen, and prominent figures, and attending a charity polo match.

Meghan’s wardrobe selections were daring and diverse. The former Suits actress was seen in a backless blush pink dress on her initial day in Nigeria and also wore the elegant Carolina Herrera silk gown she sported when announcing her pregnancy with Princess Lilibet.

Despite many expressing admiration for her fashion choices, some experts have suggested that Meghan would have been disregarding royal protocols if it were an official visit, as per reports from the Mirror.

Fashion guru Susie Nelson said: “As Meghan is no longer a working royal, and this was a private visit, she didn’t have to think about royal rules and protocol regarding her clothes. The blush pink Heidi Merrick dress would not have been seen on an official royal tour having an open back.

“A royal official would have taken note of Nigerian travel site suggestions that modesty in clothing is preferred. I believe Nigeria is predominantly a Muslim country.”

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, caught spectator attention as she observed Prince Harry participating in a volleyball match while clad in a £2,275 striped sundress.

Commenting on Meghan’s choice of attire, stylist Susie noted: “The slit on the Johanna Ortiz dress would be too long for an official tour.”

During their meeting with the Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Defence Forces, Meghan chose a crisply tailored white suit. However, Susie remarked that some might perceive the trousers as overly snug.

Susie, the proprietor of Modes and More, did praise Meghan for her choice to incorporate vibrant colors. Following a string of neutral ensembles, the Duchess made a striking appearance in a bold red dress during a panel discussion with Women In Leadership.

The Duchess said: “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived and I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion.”

The cardinal-red-hued dress, an ethically conscious creation by Nigerian designer Orire, is priced under £230. Susie said: “The wearing of bright colours was a good idea, Nigerian clothes are colourful and Megan wanted to be noticed. The red dress was by a Nigerian brand Orire, a thoughtful choice.”
