Danish Monarch Celebrated 56th Birthday Alongside His Wife Queen Mary And Their Children

The Danish Royal Family gathered on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace to celebrate King Frederik X’s 56th birthday.

Waving to the crowds on Sunday, the king was joined by his wife, Queen Mary, and their four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine. His mother, Queen Margrethe, was also present.

This birthday marks King Frederik’s first since ascending to the throne in January. Dressed smartly in a navy tailored suit and bright pink tie, the monarch looked dapper. Queen Mary, 52, wore a fuchsia dress from No. 21’s spring/summer 2018 collection.

In a sweet gesture, the royal couple held hands as they greeted fans from the balcony. Earlier, the Danish Royal Family’s official Instagram account had shared a new portrait of King Frederik in his military uniform.

Queen Margrethe, who abdicated the throne on January 14, 2024, matched her daughter-in-law in a bright broderie midi-dress and the iconic Daisy brooch, which she favors for special family events.

Princess Isabella, 17, and Princess Josephine, 13, both wore blue dresses, with Isabella choosing Zimmerman and Josephine opting for Paul & Joe. Crown Prince Christian, 18, and Prince Vincent, 13, coordinated in navy suits similar to their father’s.

King Frederik and Queen Mary have had a busy month, having recently returned from a visit to Norway.

During the trip, they met with Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Crown Princess Mette-Marit in Oslo and attended a gala dinner hosted by King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway at The Royal Palace on May 14, coinciding with their 20th wedding anniversary.

For the dinner, King Frederik wore his military uniform, while Queen Mary stunned in a lavender gown by Birgit Hallstein and debuted the Pearl Poire tiara.

The Norwegian and Danish royal families share a close connection, with Queen Margrethe and King Harald being second cousins.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are also godparents to Queen Mary and King Frederik’s eldest son, Crown Prince Christian.
