Iranian state media reported explosions occurring in central Isfahan on Friday, while US media sources cited officials indicating that Israel had conducted retaliatory strikes against its longtime rival.
Reports from state media stated that air defense systems in several Iranian cities were activated following the announcement from the country’s official broadcaster regarding explosions near the central city of Isfahan.
Israel had previously issued warnings of retaliatory actions after Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones toward Israel over the weekend, with most of them being intercepted.
Iran’s Fars news agency noted the occurrence of “three explosions” near the Shekari army airbase in the northwest of Isfahan province.
Additionally, Iran’s space agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian mentioned that “several” drones had been “successfully shot down.”
“There are no reports of a missile attack for now,” Dalirian said on social media platform X.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency, citing “reliable sources,” reported that nuclear facilities in Isfahan were declared to be “completely secure.”
Meanwhile, ABC and CBS News attributed the strikes to Israel, quoting US officials. However, there was no immediate response from the White House or Pentagon.
