Princess Catharina-Amalia, aged 20, is poised to mark a significant and exciting milestone this month. The Dutch royal’s parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, will host King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain on a state visit to the Netherlands from April 17th to 18th.
The first day’s highlight will be a state banquet at the Royal Palace Amsterdam, during which Princess Catharina-Amalia will be in attendance alongside her parents, Princess Beatrix, and Princess Margriet, as confirmed by the Dutch royal household.
This event will provide another rare opportunity for the princess to wear a tiara, as she is the heir to the Dutch throne. Catharina-Amalia made a stunning debut in a tiara at Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th birthday gala in 2022, donning the Dutch Star Button Tiara, which Queen Maxima wore on her wedding day in 2002, paired with a lovely pink caped evening gown.
In 2023, Catharina-Amalia adorned another jewel from the Dutch royal family’s collection, the Ruby Peacock Tiara, for the wedding reception of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa in Jordan in June.
Later that year, for Crown Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th birthday gala in October, she captivated in a blue caped gown by the Belgian fashion brand Essential Antwerp, complemented by Queen Emma of the Netherlands’ sapphire tiara.
Since September 2022, the princess has been pursuing a degree in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics at the University of Amsterdam. In January 2023, she achieved another royal milestone by completing her first official tour of the Dutch Caribbean alongside her parents.
Princess Catharina-Amalia has two younger sisters: Princess Alexia, aged 18, who graduated from UWC Atlantic College in Wales last year, and Princess Ariane, who will turn 17 on April 10th and is currently studying at UWC Adriatic in Italy.
During the Spanish state visit, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be formally welcomed by the Dutch king and queen at an official ceremony held at Dam Square in Amsterdam, followed by the laying of a wreath at the National Monument.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 17th, King Willem-Alexander and King Felipe will participate in a sports day organized by the Cruyff Foundation, followed by discussions on the development of a maritime hydrogen corridor between the port of Bilbao and the port of Amsterdam. The state banquet is scheduled for Wednesday evening.
The state visit will conclude with an evening reception at Museum STRAAT in Amsterdam, which Princess Catharina-Amalia will also attend.
