A 30-year-old man in Germany and his partner-in-crime injected mercury into his one-year-old daughter‘s foot in act of revenge after his ex wife Kathrin K. left him after the girl’s birth.
Why They Did What They Did
According to the indictment, the father Alexander K. who is a geriatric nurse and his new girlfriend, named as paramedic Maike W, 34, knew the poison would not kill the toddler, but wanted her to experience severe pain.
How the Girl React to the Injection
After the injection, the daughter got a severe infection in her foot and a rash all over her body.
How the Girl Was Saved
Doctors later discovered the mercury in her body and immediately contacted the police. Doctors explained how the baby could have died as a result of enough mercury.
Both the father and his girlfriend initially denied the charge before Hannover Regional Court , but shortly before the trial ended the couple admitted they together injected the mercury into the girl’s left foot and right ankle last July.
Investigation reveals Alexander K. previously wrote in a written statement:Â ‘I wanted to harm my ex-wife.’

The court has since sentenced the man to 13 years in prison for attempted murder and his girlfriend was sentenced to 12 years in prison for taking part in the crime, which took place in July 2023.Â
