29-year-old Michael Davis murdered his four-week-old baby and still insisted he had ‘no idea’ how he ended up with a ‘snapped’ neck and 37 injuries which were compared to those usually received in a ‘high energy car crash‘.
Baby Ollie was pronounced dead at 7.30am on October 21, 2017, after being discovered in a bedroom he shared with his parents.
Cause of Death
‘Helpless’ Ollie suffered broken ribs, as well as fractures to his skull, collar bone, both arms and all the joints in his four limbs before he arrived at Leicester Royal Infirmary on the day of his death.
Examinations conducted on him showed that he had sustained neck injury about four days before his death – the injury was ruled to be the fatal injury by pathologists.
Why He Did What He Did?
The CPS said Davis was spending nights awake on his gaming console and working by day and argued that this left him unable to manage the complex demands of a young baby requiring feeding, changing and winding at all hours of the night, to the extent that he lashed out at Ollie.
Court Ruling
Today, Michael Davis has been given a minimum term of 22 years for murdering his four-week-old son Ollie Davis
Ollie’s mother, Kayleigh Driver, was cleared of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
However, she was jailed for seven years for the crimes of causing or allowing the death of a child and causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical injury.
