Drunk driver, 24, SMASHED into dead grandmother, 62 – her car was hit so hard the engine flew out

A drunk man ran into a grandmother while driving at twice the speed limit and three times the drink-driving limit.

What Happened?

Alexander Kohrs, 24, was driving at 73mph in a 35mph zone when he hit 62-year-old Karla O’Malley who went unconscious and never came back to life.

The grandma was returning home from visiting her baby granddaughters in October 2022 when she lost her life to the drunk driver on a ‘go-slow’ road.

The family had been preparing for Halloween and O’Malley had helped dress the girls for a local trunk-or-treat event.

After eating dinner with them that Saturday evening, she headed back to husband Anthony and was just minutes from home when Kohrs plowed into the back of her car at 73mph in a 35mph zone.

The ‘head-on’ crash sent O’Malley’s car into a powerline and its engine onto the sidewalk.

Court Ruling

Kohrs has now been sentenced to eight years in prison for the killing this week.

Her daughter Megan Hillen read an impact statement shared on Facebook, ‘It’s important to honor my mom’s story, and to say what needs to be said.

‘My hope is it will help our family not move on, but move forward. I’m hoping it will make this pit that’s been living in my chest for the last 1.5 years finally go away.

She continued: ‘My baby daughters were the ‘two little lights of her life. That was what she lived for. She just loved hanging out with her grandbabies.’
