While King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia enjoyed a snowy retreat in Jämtland County, Crown Princess Victoria, the future queen of Sweden, reportedly took a low-key trip to a Spanish island with her family.
The 46-year-old royal, along with her 50-year-old husband Prince Daniel and their two children, 12-year-old Princess Estelle and 8-year-old Prince Oscar, spent the Easter break in Palma, Mallorca.
The family of four dined at the Mar de Nudos restaurant on Monday, enjoying the scenic view of the marina while indulging in a blend of Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine.
Victoria and Daniel are scheduled to resume their royal duties on Monday, April 8th, attending a diplomatic reception alongside the king and queen. Despite their young age, Estelle and Oscar typically accompany their parents to significant royal events throughout the year.
They joined Victoria and Daniel for the Crown Princess’s name day celebration at the Royal Palace on March 12th. During the event, proud mother Victoria was spotted affectionately embracing her daughter Estelle as they observed the ceremony in the palace courtyard.
Similar to Crown Princess Victoria, Estelle holds the position of a future queen of Sweden. Notably, she is the first female in Swedish history to be born with an inherent right to the crown, which cannot be overridden by the birth of a male heir.
Additionally, Estelle holds the distinction of being the first person in Swedish history born to a female heir apparent. Initially, Victoria’s younger brother, Prince Carl Philip, was the heir to the throne for seven months until January 1, 1980, when the law on the order of succession was enacted.
At that time, Crown Princess Victoria, who was two years old, assumed the role of heir apparent as the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
Significant changes have occurred within the Swedish monarchy in recent years. King Carl XVI Gustaf implemented measures to associate Swedish royalty more closely with the role of the head of state. Consequently, five of his grandchildren were stripped of their royal titles.
As of November 2019, Princess Madeleine’s children, Leonore, Nicolas, and Adrienne, as well as Prince Carl Philip’s sons, Alexander and Gabriel, no longer hold the style of His/Her Royal Highness.
