The armorer for the Alec Baldwin movie Rust showed little emotion as she was hauled straight to jail after being found guilty in the shooting death of the film’s cinematographer.
A jury found that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed negligently allowed a live bullet to get into the gun on the set of Western that Baldwin used to accidentally shoot dead Halyna Hutchins, the movie’s cinematographer.
Court Ruling
After two hours of deliberations at the courthouse in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a jury found Gutierrez-Reed guilty on the manslaughter count, but acquitted her on a charge of tampering with evidence. She now faces up to 18 months in jail.
As She Was Pronounced Guilty
Gutierrez-Reed, 26, removed her jewelry and handed over her phone as she was lead from court on Wednesday.
As she was walked out to start her sentence, her mom could be seen weeping and putting her head in her hands.
Victim Impact Statement
Hutchins’ family released statement after the verdict and said they ‘look forward’ to everyone else responsible for her death facing justice – an apparent reference to Baldwin who faces trial for involuntary manslaughter in July.
What Will Happen to Alec Baldwin?
The actor, 65, will be tried in the same courthouse and faces the same possible sentence if convicted.
‘Halyna’s parents and her sister have always wanted everyone who is responsible for Halyna’s death to be held accountable,’ the family’s lawyers Gloria Allred and John Carpenter said.

‘Today was the first trial and conviction in the criminal justice process. We are satisfied that the jury, based on the evidence, found Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for her part in the taking of Halyna’s life.
‘We look forward to the justice system continuing to make sure that everyone else who is responsible for Halyna’s death is required to face the legal consequences for their actions.’
About The Lawsuit
Baldwin was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter but the allegations were dropped in April last year.
He was dramatically charged again last month and pleaded not guilty.
The shooting happened in October 2021 after two weeks of filming while Baldwin was practicing drawing out his gun from the holster.
He opened fire on Hutchins, 42, a married mother-of-one whose son was nine at the time, and the bullet went through her and lodged in the shoulder of director Joel Souza, who survived and testified in court.
