The Queen has provided an update on the Princess of Wales, marking Camilla’s first appearance since Kate announced her cancer diagnosis last Friday.
Her Majesty, aged 76, expressed that the Princess is “thrilled” by the overwhelming public support when she encountered two sisters holding posters bearing the touching message “send our love to Kate.”
Camilla was warmly welcomed by thousands of well-wishers during her visit to Shrewsbury Farmers’ Market in Shropshire on Wednesday. Amidst the crowd, the Queen took a moment to converse with ten-year-old Harriet and six-year-old Lois Waterston, who presented her with the posters they had crafted the day before, adorned with stars and hearts.
The older schoolgirl apologised, saying, “I’m sorry they’re a bit creased” but Camilla crouched down to talk to them and said: “I’ll take them carefully and we’ll make sure she knows they’re coming”.
Speaking after, Harriet said: “We heard the news and I wanted to hold the poster up to show my love to Kate.”
Their mother Lucy Waterston, who didn’t think the Queen would even get to see the cards, said: “She said she certainly will send her love.”
In the meantime, the 75-year-old King was photographed waving from his official Bentley limousine as he departed Clarence House in London.
Camilla has emerged as a prominent figure within the royal family amidst a series of health challenges since the beginning of the year.
Kate underwent abdominal surgery on January 16th at the London Clinic, the same facility where the King received treatment for an enlarged prostate during the same month.
On February 5th, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer. Consequently, the King has suspended all public engagements during this period, although he will be accompanied by his wife Camilla and a reduced number of royal relatives at the Easter Sunday service in Windsor this weekend.
Kate, aged 42, disclosed in a surprising announcement on Friday that post-operative tests following her abdominal surgery revealed the presence of cancer. She has commenced a regimen of preventive chemotherapy but remains optimistic.
The Princess said in an emotional video message: “I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
