Princess Elisabeth Meets Barack Obama

Princess Elisabeth, the future queen, set aside her studies to extend a warm welcome to a distinguished visitor at the palace in Belgium.

The 22-year-old royal, currently pursuing a degree in History and Politics at Lincoln College, Oxford University, met former US President Barack Obama alongside her father, King Philippe, at the Castle of Laeken in Brussels. Radiant in a stunning royal blue ensemble, the princess posed for a group photograph with the king and the 44th US President.

This encounter preceded Obama’s keynote address at a technology event near Antwerp on Sunday.

Since concluding his presidential tenure in 2017, Barack has remained actively engaged in politics, lending support to Democratic candidates in various American elections, including the current President, Joe Biden. Additionally, he has authored three bestselling books and continues to reside in Washington, D.C., with his wife and former First Lady, Michelle Obama.

Meanwhile, Princess Elisabeth is diligently preparing for her future role as the queen of Belgium. Upon her accession to the throne, she will etch her name in history as Belgium’s first female monarch.

Born on October 25, 2001, Princess Elisabeth, also known as the Duchess of Brabant, is the eldest daughter of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. Her birth occurred during the reign of her grandfather, King Albert II, who abdicated in favor of his son in July 2013.

Princess Elisabeth received her education at St John Berchmans College in Brussels from 2004 to 2018. She further pursued her secondary education at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, a renowned institution favored by European royalty. Currently, Infanta Sofia of Spain is also attending the college, located at St Donat’s Castle in south Wales.

In 2020, Elisabeth embarked on her military training, and upon its completion last September, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Belgian Army. She shares a close bond with her three younger siblings – Prince Gabriel, aged 20, Prince Emmanuel, aged 18, and Princess Eleonore, aged 15.Top of Form
