A mother has been left with horrific wounds after a stranger slashed across her face with a broken glass in a random bar attack on Beaujolais Day.
Natalie Arthurs was brutally attacked by 25-year-old Emily Williams in the toilets of Peppermint Bar on Swansea’s Wind Street in an unprovoked assault.
Court Ruling
This week Williams was sentenced to five years in prison for inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, with the judge describing the thug’s actions as ‘wicked almost beyond belief’.
The incident has left the 36-year-old with permanent scars on her face and unable to return to work. She has also been forced to abandon her role within the Army Reserves as she does not feel comfortable in uniform with her obvious facial wound.
The Night The Attack Happened
Recalling the night, Miss Arthurs said: ‘I was putting on lipstick in the mirror when I heard a voice with an angry tone shouting something like: ‘Who do you think you are?’
‘I heard a glass smashing and I turned around and saw a woman with blonde hair and a glass in her hand. I saw the glass coming towards my face. It was all so quick. I felt something cold cutting into my face. I knew it was bad.’
Court Heard
This week Swansea Crown Court heard of the assault that took place on November 17 2022 when many crowded into the city to celebrate Beaujolais Day.
Miss Arthurs had been out for a meal and to another bar in the area before heading to Peppermint with a friend.
At just before 6pm she was in the toilets when Williams came in and started shouting at her. Williams then smashed the glass she was carrying and used the weapon to slash her victim’s face.Â
Miss Arthurs said she grappled with her attacker who lashed out with the glass again but this time towards her neck. It grazed her shoulder and chest instead.
Miss Arthurs said: ‘I felt like someone was trying to kill me. There was such a sense of rage and anger in the person who did this.
‘I can remember looking in the mirror on the wall as we struggled and seeing flesh hanging off my face and nose. There was blood everywhere like a scene from a horror movie.’
