A New Hampshire man who allegedly kidnapped his two daughters is now facing a murder charge in connection with the death of the mother of his children, authorities said.
On Monday, Dustin Duren was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge in Berlin District Court and was ordered by a judge to be held without bail.
It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
Duren, 37, is accused of killing 31-year-old Caitlyn Naffziger. Her body was found by police officers who responded to a Berlin, N.H., apartment around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release shared by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.
What Autopsy Reveals
An autopsy confirmed Naffziger died from a single gunshot wound to the head and the manner of her death was homicide.
An Amber Alert was issued the next morning for Duren and the couple’s two children, ages 1 and 4, who were believed to be traveling with him, authorities said.
New Hampshire State Police said in a Facebook post at the time that Duren ‘may possibly be armed and dangerous.’

How he Was Captured
Duren was captured around 11 a.m. Friday after witnesses spotted his car outside of a restaurant in Keene, N.H., about 170 miles southwest of Berlin, and called police, according to the attorney general’s office.
Authorities said the girls were found safe and the alert was canceled.Â
‘The New Hampshire Department of Justice, New Hampshire State Police, and the Berlin Police Department extend their thanks to the efforts of the Keene Police Department for assisting in responding to the report of Mr. Duren’s vehicle and his children to ensure their safety today,’ the release states.
According to NBC Boston, Duren is expected back in court on March 13 for a probable cause hearing.
