Coleen Nolan, 59, has revealed she has spent over half a million pounds on cigarettes.
Her Confession
The Loose Women star said she used to have 30-cigarettes-a-day meaning she was sending £14,000 a year up in smoke — for 40 years.
Coleen, though has quit smoking just 12 weeks ago. She admitted she used to think it was ‘really cool’ to smoke but now believes it’s ‘antisocial’.
Her Regrets
Speaking in support of National No Smoking Day, she said: ‘I could have taken my whole family on a fantastic first class holiday for that. Or bought a car. It’s ridiculous.
‘Back in the day when I started it was classed as really cool but no, it’s actually really antisocial. They are a fortune now. Basically, you may as well take that £20 a day or whatever it is and just set fire to it, as that is effectively what you are doing and killing yourself at the same time.
She Tried Hard to Stop
‘During Covid I tried to stop and I got an app that tells you how much money you have saved. At that point it was about £14,000 a year. Since then it’s gone up by two or three pounds a pack so it’s now probably about £18,000 a year.’
Coleen, who chain-smoked while in the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2017, admitted the ‘damage’ is probably already done but she can prevent it getting worse as she ‘wants to be around for as long as possible’.
Real Reason She Gave up on Her 40-year Smoking Habit
It comes after Coleen revealed how a severe chest infection left her fearing she would die before finally deciding to kick her 40-year smoking habit.
She recalled becoming so unwell she was left ‘gasping for air’ and ‘struggling to breathe.’
Coleen told of how she suffered a panic attack as a result of her breathing troubles, when she was unable ‘to walk a few feet’ without having to stop due to feeling ‘constantly winded.’
