Now, the Fond du Lac Police Department says they are investigating the death as a homicide.
Annaka Winter Trudell – arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree reckless homicide – is now behind bars at the Fond du Lac County jail, the local outlets reported.
Details of The Crime Scene
An unidentified 21-year-old man has also been arrested, charged with harboring or aiding a felon.
Responding to a report of a single-car crash just before 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13, police determined that Calo had crashed into landscaping bricks, her car landing atop some nearby shrubbery.
While investigators have not provided many details of Calo’s death, her friend Jason Smith said in an interview that ‘she was stabbed twice, once in the stomach and once in the neck.’
She Was Rushed to Help
First responders began performing life-saving efforts at the scene. Calo was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
As of Thursday, police were still waiting for the Fond du Lac Medical Examiner’s Office to conduct an autopsy to establish the cause and manner of death.
The toddler – identified as Calo’s son – was unharmed.
