I moved to Australia from America – DON’T make the same mistake I did

An American traveller has issued a grim warning about the brutal nature of the Australian sun.

Taylor Nunez, from California, is visiting Sydney for the first time and spent three hours laying on the beach in the sun, only applying suncream on her face.

The Sun Was Harsh

The 21-year-old told FEMAIL she didn’t expect the sun to be so harsh and the UV level on January 29 was 12.

‘I’m in Sydney Australia for the first time and didn’t realise the ozone layer is non-existent here,’ she said in a now-viral TikTok video.

Sunburn on Her Body

Consequently the brunette beauty was left with horrific sunburn on her legs and arms which started peeling.

Taylor said she only applied sunscreen on her face – as she does daily – and the UV levels were sitting at eight earlier on in the day.

However, her skin fell victim to the savage Australian sun and she shared what the sunburn looked like in a TikTok video almost a week later.

‘It’s All Really Bad’

‘How does this happen? I think I added about 15 years of ageing onto my legs due to this,’ she said in the clip.

‘My arm is not much better either, or my chest, or the back of my legs, it’s all really bad.

‘If you have any tips beside aloe, it would be greatly appreciated, because I need all the help I can get.’

Viewers Are in Disbelief

The video has since been viewed a staggering 6.3million times and the burns left others in disbelief.

‘Oh my god I never seen a burn that bad and I’m Australian!’ one person commented.

‘That looks so painful,’ another said, a third added: ‘Girl the sun here is no joke, SPF always,’

Now Taylor’s on a mission to encourage other travellers to wear SPF 50+ when Down Under.

‘When visiting Australia you should buy Australian sunscreen and be much more cautious about the sun,’ Taylor told FEMAIL.

‘The hole in the ozone layer makes the UV much stronger which my skin is not acclimated to, even from coming from the California sun.’
