WEST AUSTRALIA – The identities of two young men tragically killed when their car plunged over a cliff has been revealed as authorities shared an update on the sole survivor who’s very lucky to be alive.
Prior Before They Met Their Death
Matthew Farr, 22, and Louis Eeles, also 22, were among six people camping in Little Bay, near Horrocks Beach in Western Australia‘s Midwest region, on Saturday night.
All six were reportedly locals from Geraldton, about 77km south of Little Bay.
It’s understood that around midnight, the two men and another mate, 21, decided to take a Nissan Patrol 4WD out for an early morning drive.
Two of the 3 Died
However, disaster struck less than four hours later when their car plummeted 20 to 30 metres down a cliff on a private property along White Cliffs Road.
Mr Farr and Mr Eeles died at the scene.
He Miraculously Climbed up
Their 21-year-old mate managed to climb up the cliff in search of help.
Around the same time, one of the campers remaining at Little Bay noticed the trio hadn’t returned and called emergency services.
Police, paramedics and fire crews were deployed to the scene shortly before 4am and found the 21-year-old wandering along the road.
He was taken to Geraldton Health Campus and airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital on Sunday night.
He remains in a stable condition in the hospital’s trauma unit, the WA Department of Health said on Monday.
Seatbelt Saved His Life
Police have hailed his survival as a miracle. It’s understood he was wearing a seatbelt which saved his life.
‘He is talking, however his recollection of events … have been affected by the incident so we’ll be waiting until he receives full treatment before we interview him and try to ascertain exactly what occurred on the night, tragically how this incident took place,’ Mid West Gascoyne Police Superintendent Steve Post said.
