When it comes to weight loss, everyone has their preferences. Perhaps it’s a strict workout regime, maybe it’s Slimming World but, for Guy Ritchie, it’s, erm, steak and coffee.
The 55-year-old director has lost a stone in recent months and he credits eating steak five nights a week for his results.
Guy – known for his work on British gangster films and the Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. – says steak is ‘easy’ for him to cook for dinner and so eats it as his only main meal most days.
Meanwhile, he tends to skip breakfast and instead starts the day with iced coffee.
He’ll then power through the day with healthy bars as snacks.
Speaking on Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast, The Gentleman director shared: ‘Usually what I eat is a rib-eye five or six days a week and I’ll play with other things, but in the end, it’s easy for me to cook.
‘I like the fat, I like the crispiness of the fat, it seems to be the right ratio of fat and meat for me.
‘I want it to be crispy and then I’m in heaven and it never gets boring.’
He proceeded to describe himself as ‘not a breakfast man’, saying he’s ‘quite smug’ about losing a stone.
‘It’s not been a struggle. I eat late,’ he stated. Guy added: ‘I quite like coffee so I’ll go on iced Americanos until about one and then I’ll have a nibble of something.
‘They do these healthy bars, like dates, cashew nuts, they’ve got just enough naughtiness in them to keep you entertained but not enough to get you in trouble.’
The Hatfield-born screenwriter admitted to struggling with his weight previously, saying he ‘spends most of his life expanding’, but now he’s in ‘contracting mode’.
Elsewhere on the pod, Guy spoke about his learning difficulties and how having dyslexia motivated him to succeed.
‘The best roses come from the worst manure. So, I think a certain amount of adversity is rather essential.’
Guy’s next project is The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a World War II drama based on a true story of a secret rogue group fighting the Nazis.
With Henry Cavill taking the lead, the movie also stars Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.
In fact, Argylle star Henry recently caused quite a stir online after transforming for the movie.
Getting into character meant growing his hair much longer and styling it in a curlier fashion, as well as growing a full beard and an impressive moustache.
The memes, of course, wrote themselves, with his new look being compared to the Pringles man and even Hercule Poirot.
An official synopsis reads: ‘The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques.
‘Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.’
