CONNECTICUT – A mother has faced backlash online after taking her six-year-old daughter on a shopping spree in Sephora – spending more than £300 on makeup and skincare.
She Uploaded the Clip That Earn Her Backlashes
Lauren Berkley, from Connecticut, who goes by @bahamasyogini on TikTok, posted a video documenting the trip last week and it has already been seen by nearly two million people.
She took her little girl to beauty superstore and let her run free for two minutes, picking up whatever she liked – because she only chose four items, her mother allowed her to continue shopping.
She Called it an Experiment
The TikToker said she wanted to do it as an ‘experiment’ to see what her daughter would buy, however she’s been slammed in the comments on the video, with viewers asking if she’s ‘going to use’ the products and ‘what the point’ was.
Lauren asked her if she’d rather have ‘two minutes getting anything’ she wanted or 10 items – with the youngster choosing two minutes’.
Lauren told viewers: ‘This was a bit of a social experiment, I wanted to see if she would purchase Drunk Elephant [skincare range] and glow recipe because of the colourful packaging.
‘Grace is only six so I don’t let her watch social media – she doesn’t have her own accounts and I have no intention to let her be on social media until she’s at least 15 or 16.
‘But I was really curious as a marketing girlie if these kids are flocking towards these specific products because of how they look or if it’s because of cultural influences and the social validation they get from using them’.
Four Products in Two Minutes
Filming her daughter pottering around the store and picking up products, she said: ‘In two minutes, Grace only picked out four products: A Charlotte Tilbury highlighter, NARS lipstick, a lip gloss that smelled like watermelon and something else’.

She Was Disappointed Though
The mother admitted: ‘I was a bit disappointed so I actually let her spend more time shopping and I was not surprised that she did not gravitate towards the Drunk Elephant.
‘I actually had to steer her in that direction. We did get a Glow Recipe moisturiser but she just wanted face masks and lip gloss’.
She concluded the video by revealing to her followers that the four items her daughter initially picked during her two minute shopping spree came to $142.51 and then when she let her keep shopping, she spent an additional $248.86.
Altogether, the six year old spent a total of $391.37 – which comes to more than £300.
