Woman allegedly cut dog’s neck ‘several times,’ THEN claimed she was told to do so in dream

FLORIDA – A Florida woman was arrested after police accused her of stabbing her dog and claiming she was told to do so in her dream, authorities allege, according to multiple news reports.

On Friday, Elena Barakova Cowan, 37, was taken into police custody and charged with felony animal cruelty, citing Miami police.

How it all Started

According to an arrest report obtained by WPLG, a two-month-long police investigation began on Nov. 14 after Cowan brought her dog to a veterinarian for medical treatment.

The report claims Cowan told police that after not sleeping for nearly four days, she had a dream that led her to stabbing her dog in the neck ‘several times,’ believing it was a sacrifice to save humanity.

The pet Survived

The dog survived the alleged attack and was taken in for adoption by Miami-Dade Animal Services, WIOD reports, citing authorities.

Now, Cowan is no longer listed in county jail records as of Monday.

It’s unclear if Cowan has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on her behalf.
