FIRE OUTBREAK – A fire engulfed the roof of a block of flats in Wembley, London, on Monday evening.

The Fire Outbreak

The blaze broke out at a property on Elm Road, prompting London Fire Brigade (LFB) to dispatch 20 fire engines and around 125 firefighters in response.

How Residents Escaped

Residents followed their evacuation procedure and were assisted by firefighters upon arrival and an adjoining four-storey block was evacuated as a precaution, LFB said.

People were advised to avoid the area and nearby residents were told to keep their doors and windows shut to stay safe from any smoke in the area.

Cause of Fire

The cause of the fire was not known at the time of reporting.

It later confirmed the fire was under control by 10pm after two of the service’s 32-metre turntable ladders were used as a water tower to help extinguish the flames.

The fire happened near Wembley Central station, which serves National Rail services and the Bakerloo Line on the London Underground network.

Trains and Tubes ran smoothly despite the black smoke billowing into the air around the station.

Bus routes in the area were diverted. Wembley Stadium is just a short walk from the flats on Elm Road, though it didn’t hosted a game or a concert Monday evening.
