A mom has sparked furious backlash after revealing she spray painted her child’s toys to match the ‘neutral’ color scheme of her Christmas decorations.

Baby beige decor

Nattie Jo Powell, from Jacksonville, Florida, took to TikTok to share the unusual DIY makeover she carried out to the $64.99 plastic tree.

The mom-of-one muted the colors of the holiday decoration, claiming her 15-month-old daughter is ‘a neutral girly at heart.’

But other social media users were left stunned as one described the end result as being ‘cold and lifeless.’

Sad beige mom

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 3.5 million times, Nattie began: ‘Go ahead and call me crazy or a sad beige mom for what I’m about to do.

‘Today, I’m giving the Step 2 My First Christmas Tree a total makeover. I’m leaning into my inner Pintrest mom with the vision to neutralize the tree and I can already hear you thinking that I’m going to ruin my toddler’s Christmas by painting over these colors.

‘But let’s be real, my toddler‘s favorite toys are brown cardboard boxes and clear plastic water bottles so I really think that she’s a neutral girly at heart.’

More reasons for her actions

She continued: ‘After taking a good long look at the tree, I headed over to Lowe’s where I picked out all of our spray paint colors…

‘Once I decided which colors to spray paint to use on each part, it was go time.’

The clip then cut to Nattie midway through her DIY project with the sections of the toy tree laid out on the ground.

The content creator, who has more than 101,000 followers, explained: ‘I originally wanted to paint the body of the tree a brown but then I realized I want my tree to look a little bit alive.

‘So here I am painting an already green tree another shade of green. It gave it a very realistic Christmas tree look which I love.’

She then spray painted the plastic star, tree skirt and accompanying ornaments in various subdued shades before letting the components dry overnight.

‘It was time for the moment of truth and see how it all looked together,’ Nattie explained.

She admitted that she should have perhaps added some ‘glitter or shine’ but was pleased that it was ‘giving organic modern vibes.’

Nattie showcased what the muted tree looked like within the family home before concluding: ‘I absolutely love it.’

But other social media users were not convinced and did not hold back in the comments.
