A young couple have been praised for their honesty after a video doorbell captured a heartwarming act of kindness they carried out.
How it all happened
Paul Lyon, from St Helens, Merseyside, had visited his local shop on Knowsley Road to withdraw cash before heading home on Sunday.
Little did he know, he dropped the cash on the walk back.
Shortly afterwards, a knock at his front door revealed Jarrod and his partner Charlie, both 17, asking if he had lost any money.
To Paul’s surprise, they had found and returned £180 that he had dropped on his way back.
‘I could tell by their personalities that they would’ve been gutted had that happened to them, both as honest as each other,’ Paul told the Liverpool Echo.
Paul had been to his local store to buy ingredients for breakfast before using the cash machine on his way home.
Within 30 seconds, he heard the doorbell ring and found Jarrod and Charlie standing on his doorstep.
Unaware that he had dropped any money, Paul checked his wallet and realised he was missing £180.
He was appreciative
Appreciative of their honesty, he offered to compensate the couple, but they politely declined to accept any payment.
Noting that the duo could have easily walked off with his cash, Paul explained: ‘I checked the video doorbell back to see where I’d dropped the money, and the video before showed the couple walking down the road just behind me and they followed me behind to tell me I’d dropped the money.
‘They quite easily could have walked off with the money and I would never have realised.’
He shared the story in a Facebook post, which received an overwhelmingly positive feedback from followers, locals and the family of Jarrod and Charlie.

Jarrod’s mother, Helen Pye, soon saw the post and explained how proud she was of her son and his girlfriend.
The pair have been described as hardworking students in year 13 at Rainford High School.

Charlie owns a business, while Jarrod volunteers at Dungeons of the North role playing gaming community, running games for other teenagers.
Meanwhile, Charlie’s mother, Sarah, also stated how proud she is of her daughter.
The Facebook post gained plenty of attention, with many people praising Jarrod and Charlie for their actions.
One commentator said the heartwarming story proves there are still kind and respectful children in the area.
