A Michelin-starred chef has been blasted by a furious customer for selling a ‘bland’ and ‘average’ plate of fish and chips for £37.
Why he is slammed
Tom Kerridge, a famous TV chef who owns a string of restaurants across the UK, has come under fire for his pricey grub – which cost more than 12 fillets of boneless cod from Tesco and a 1.6kg bag of McCain’s chips.
The budget-busting plate of food was dished up Kerridge’s Fish and Chips, inside luxury department store Harrods in London – where a portion of Cornish brill with chips can set diners back a whopping £52, while lobster can cost up to £80.
The restaurant’s menu boasts the £37 ‘market day fish’ is ‘caught from day boats in Cornwall’ and ‘coated in Kerridge’s gluten-free batter, and served with chips, Matson curry sauce, tartare sauce and pease pudding’.
But the meal left Rob Boyd furious.
Furious reactions
Sharing a photo of the food on X, formerly known as Twitter, Rob wrote: ‘THIRTY SEVEN POUNDS for this bland plate of fish & chips at Tom Kerridge’s in Harrods. NINE chips. NINE.’
Rob’s tweet about his ‘average and expensive’ food has since gone viral, having been seen by more than two million people since it was posted on Wednesday afternoon.
And the image of the seemingly meagre offerings prompted a furious wave of criticism, with one person writing: ‘Frigging disgrace! Fine dining taking the royal p***.’
