GQ Men Of The Year list sparks fury as OVER HALF honourees are female

GQ’s Man Of The Year list has sparked outrage over the number of female honourees featured, with some deeming the choices ‘disgraceful’.

On Wednesday evening, the publication hosted its annual UK ceremony in London, where a slew of guests attended to unveil the strong list of winners from 2023, while Thursday evening will play host to the US version of the event.

The magazine does not specify the gender of those on the list, instead detailing: ‘GQ Men of the Year celebrates stars from entertainment, fashion and sport who have made 2023 a year to remember’.

Lioness Mary Earps was also given a nod among the 11 women and nine men

The UK list of 20 stars – 11 of which are female, including Simone Rocha, girl group Flo, Emily Maitlis, Bianca Saunders, Yomi Adegoke, Lucy Prebble, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jasmine Jobson, Molly Manning Walker, Mary Earps and Jenni Hermoso.

Among a number of covers to mark the annual recognition was a Kim Kardashian fronted issue of the US edition, which only led to further confusion with many pointing out the cover should have featured a male star.

Kim’s GQ spread featured her dressed as a man in a number of stunning shots, however scandal erupted on Twitter.

One disgruntled follower penned: ‘Disgraceful women should not get a mens title. Men are achievers and deserve there own price. Gq is a loser magazine’.

Further explosive responses from critics read: ‘Popular culture is relentlessly mocking men and undermining patriarchy. GQ naming Kim Kardashian as ‘man of the year’ is just the latest example…

‘Men are portrayed as weak and laughable while women are glorified. This cultural shift is brainwashing and… Men are dominating women’s sports and winning female beauty pageants and Kim Kardashian was named a GQ Man of the Year….’

Defending the decision however, Twitter users wrote: ‘I do understand the frustration – but the GQ ‘man of the year’ is actually a list of quite a few people, and it usually includes both men and women. sydney sweeney was one of them last year…

‘It’s sort of just a ‘person of the year’… Do u ppl even read gq…? Women cover for this issue all the time. Stop trying to be marginalized…’
